The best things to do in the Cocksdorp Texel<\/h1>\r\n

[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]De Cocksdorp is the youngest village on Texel. Named after the Belgian shipowner N.J de Cock. At the beginning of the 19th century, with the help of 1500 workers, he laid 11 kilometres of dyke along Texel in just 5 months.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

As a result, the north side of the island was protected from the high rising tide, but a lot of agricultural land was also released. Something that was much needed with the rapidly growing number of people in the Netherlands. No wonder they named a village after the man who made this happen at such a rapid pace.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

They thought about that, a very long dike of 300 metres has been laid in the water. These dunes form the remnant of the island of Eierland, which when the Wadden Islands came into being about nine hundred years ago, lay between Texel and Vlieland. They are therefore the oldest dunes on Texel. Because of the composition of the soil, exceptionally many flowers bloom here in spring, an amazing sight. The lighthouse of Texel watches over this centuries-old piece of island.<\/p>\r\n<\/div>\r\n

How to get to Texel and the Cocksdorp<\/h2>\r\n\r\n

From Den Helder, Texel is easy to reach by ferry from Teso.<\/a> From the Waddenhaven on Texel, you takethe Texelhopper<\/a>, this van drives all over the island and also stops in the Cocksdorp. After this it’s a short walk before you’re up to your ankles in the beach.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Do you want a real Wadden experience? Consider taking an authentic sailing ship to Texel. This can be done from the harbour of Enkhuizen<\/a> or Harlingen, for example.
